BOULDER MUSIC INSTITUTE

SYMPHONIC PROGRAM
June 30 - July20

Our priority at the Boulder Music Institute is your development as a young orchestral musician. The BMI faculty has the modern and international experience to fulfill your orchestral educational needs. The faculty-student ratio enables an intensive and personalized approach to each student’s individual needs as a musician. We believe that every musician is a work of art in consistent evolution, physically and emotionally. Let’s work together this summer for an energetic, informative, and fun-filled three week orchestral immersion festival. The festival is located in the progressive city of Boulder, Colorado, gateway to the front range of the Rocky Mountains.

FESTIVAL OPPORTUNITIES

The Orchestra will be led this summer by Nathan Brock, Resident Conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal. Students will rehearse daily, and receive coaching from faculty, consisting of members of the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and other prominent musicians in the field of orchestral music.

During the three week festival, students will perform three full concerts of standard orchestral repertoire. In addition, there will be collaboration with the opera program that includes performances of opera arias and scenes. There will also be a concerto competition, with the winners performing with the BMI Symphony Orchestra.

The schedule is paced so that students will have a chance to experience the typical preparation of a professional orchestral program. However, the schedule is also designed so that students will also have the opportunity to enjoy the “real-world” learning experience that Boulder Music Institute offers.

Masterclasses will be held daily so that students have the opportunity to perform solo and orchestral excerpts. Students will receive “hands-on” training in audition preparation, as well as training in how to perform on the job as an orchestral musician.

Seminars will be held on a variety of relevant topics in the orchestral world. Topics include:
  • Audition Preparation and Practice
  • Beyond the Audition: How to keep your job
  • Establishing yourself as a freelance musician
  • Etiquette: How to get along with others on the job
  • Staying Healthy as a Musician
